Position: Croatia is located in central and south-eastern part of Europe bordering Slovenia and Hungary to the north, Serbia and Bosnia and Hercegovina to the east, Montenegro to the south, while it shares west maritime border with Italy

Surface Area: Mainland covers 56.594 square kilometres (21.851 square miles), while the service of costal sea waters is 31.479 square kilometres (12.154 square miles)

Coastline: In the air distance of just 526 kilometers (526 miles), from most north point to the most south point of the Croatian coastline, lie 1.244 islands, islets, stacks and reefs. Together the island coastline and the mainland coastline stretch over 5.835 kilometers (3.625 miles)

Islands: Among theses 1.244 island, islets and rocks there are 47 inhabited islands. The largest are: Krk, Cres, Brač, Hvar, Pag, Korčula, Dugi otok, Mljet, Vis, Rab, Pašman, Šolta

Climate: Mediterranean on the coastline and continental in the inland

Population: 4.284.889 inhabitants (data from 2011)

Official Language and Alphabet: Croatian Language written in Latin alphabet

Capital: Zagreb – the largest city in the country (around 780.000 inhabitants) and administrative, cultural, academic and communication centre of the country

Nationality: The majority of population are Croats, while the minorities are Italians, Slovenes, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovacs, Serbians, Bosnians and othes

Religion: The majority of population are predominantly Roman Catholics

Monetary Unit: Croatian kuna (KN); 1 kuna consists of 100 Lipa
