ABOUT CROATIA: ADRIATIC SEA


The sea has become the way of life for local people on Croatian coast and islands. For centuries it was appreciated because of trading and fishing, and nowadays maritime travel has become the most significant. Known for its clearness it, together with other natural and historical beauties, attracts tourist from all over the world to come and enjoy those infallible 3S -Sun, Sea & Sand during summer time.

Sea temperature: Adriatic Sea surface temperature ranges from 22°C to 27°C in the summer, or 8°C to 14°C in the winter (the coolest temperatures are measured on the north of Adriatic).

Salinity: The salinity of Adriatic Sea is 38-39 PSUs. There are slight differences in north and south part because of the influence of river Po in the north. 

Depths: In Croatian Territorial Waters of East Adriatic depth vary from maximum of 50 meters in the north near Pula to 200 meters near island Jabuka then drops to 130 meters at Palagruža Sill and then rises more further to the south. 
In all Adriatic area the deepest areas are Mid Adriatic Pit with depth of 270 meters (890 ft) and South Adriatic Pit with depth of 1.230 meters (4.035 ft)

Tides: amplitudes of tides are irregular and relatively small: from 0,5 meters in the south to 1 meter in the north part.

Sea Currents: On the Adriatic currents are weakly observable. Their speed varies from usually 0,5 knots/Hour to 4knots.
